At the heart of PRINCE2 lies five integrated elements that guide project managers in delivering value with clarity and control.
PRINCE2 is a model consisting of five integrated elements. Our PRINCE2 training provides a comprehensive coverage of these elements. They are known as: Project Context, Principles, People, Practices and Processes.
Project context
PRINCE2 encourages organizations to consider how to align the use of the PRINCE2 methodology with consideration of:
- Organizational policies and governance requirements
- The project’s commercial context
- Preferred delivery method
- Sustainability requirements, and
- Project scale.
Understanding the project context provides strong insights on how to appropriately apply PRINCE2’s principles with the attributes of business environment in mind.
Principles
PRINCE2’s seven principles are at the very foundation of the PRINCE2 project management methodology. These principles are designed to ‘guide’ the use of PRINCE2 with careful consideration of the project’s context. The seven principles are:
- Ensure continued business justification
- Defined roles, responsibilities and relationships
- Learn from experience
- Manage by exception
- Manage by stages
- Focus on products
- Tailor to suit the project
People
People are central to the PRINCE2 method. Understanding people’s motivations and how best to work with cross-functional teams and other stakeholders is key to the success of any project. Communications, leading successful change and leading successful teams are core activities within PRINCE2’s people element.
Practices
PRINCE2 practices describe project management ‘aspects’ that need to be regularly applied throughout the project’s lifecycle. The practices are:
- Business Case
- Organizing
- Plans
- Quality
- Risk
- Issues
- Progress
Processes
PRINCE2 processes offer a step by step project ‘lifecycle’ designed to aid the application of PRINCE2’s principles and practices. These seven processes are specifically designed to support the preparation, execution and closure phases of a project. They are:
- Starting up a project
- Initiating a project
- Directing a project
- Controlling a stage
- Managing product delivery
- Managing a stage boundary
- Closing a project
Our PRINCE2 Course covers all five elements in detail with learning activities designed to enhance understanding and prepare training participants for the PRINCE2 certification exams; PRINCE2 Foundation certification exam and PRINCE2 Practitioner certification exam.
